My #1 Rule for a Meaningful Life

My 13-year-old Boy Wonder asked me last night, "Mummy, what's the point of living if we just die in the end anyway?"

Wow, I don't know what surprised me more -- this coming from a 13-year-old, or from the son of a life affirmer! It sounds so macabre coming from a young adolescent raised in a positive, warm, supportive and affirmative home! (We all know it's not though -- the "meaning of life" is something we're all chasing, is it not!?!)

Anyhoo, this is what i told him: my #1 rule for a meaningful life...

What do YOU think is the secret to a meaningful life?

I really can't see why you were so surprised - it is a perfectly natural question I think, and especially for a young child, such as your boy.

Thanks so much for using Wisdomology to publish your beautiful insight! We really appreciate it, and are happy you're finding it fun. P.S. - I've dugg, reddited, stumbled & technorati-ed and otherwise marked this page out in the internet ether. It's really awesome - you're doing great work. May you find much success!

Anita - what a wonderful way to show your son a facet of what life is....you might also want to mention to him that life is like a class - you take it and learn the lessons along the way....it is up to us to gain our knowledge and to share what we have learned or felt....have fun with life! And have fun with your son - he sounds curious and questioning - hope he neer loses that! Goddess Bless!

How fabulous your boy wonder is such an inquisitive being. My own boy wonder asked me a similar question when he was about the same age. While I was tempted to approach the answer from a metaphysical aspect, I took the answer in the direction of quantum physics. Where the bottom line is, all is energy and energy never dies. It changes and transforms, but does not die. So physical death is a transition, and transformation. He asked;" into what?" I told him: "we won't fully know until it happens, won't that be a great adventure?". My boy wonder is 23 now, and we still have talks about what happens after physical death. The tranistion from waking life to physical death will find all of us when our time comes. Until then, each day is a blesssing and another opportunity to serve
